I have a monster tooth ache! Please help!?

Ok well today I broke my teeth, my permenant teeth, while I was playing soccer today. The teeth i broke are my two front teeth. They hurt pretty bad. Any suggestions as what to do until I go to the doctors? Oh uhm is it bad for shards of teeth to get stuck in my throat? And While I sleep to noight what are the chances of a piece getting loose and falling down my throat? Sorry that may sound like I am a little paranoid. Ty and God bless guys!

Reply:Dear Truefire,

I am confused and shocked.....IF you were playing soccer today, was it on a school or sports team? Wasn't anyone in charge of the game? Any parents, family or friends there?

The reason why I'm asking these questions is under normal (for sports players) conditions you would have been taken immediately for treatment!!!

There have been many instances where the tooth or teeth have been SUCCESSFULLY returned to the mouth.

Since you mention shards and pieces that probably would not have been an option for you. BUT, the immediate treatment is still something that should have been done.

UNTIL you get yourself to a dentist and/ or surgeon you can try ICE to relieve the pain. With enough ice used the gums and nerves should be deadened. I know that many people are amazed that dentists recommend this...it usually works!

DO you have PIECES stuck in your THROAT? OR, is this just a fear you have? IF there are actual pieces of tooth STUCK in your throat....you need an emergency room or emergency dentist.

If your teeth were broken in pieces that are NOT stuck in your throat then....Swallowing you tooth or teeth isn't going to be a problem. Like everything in LIFE...this too shall PASS!!! (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!)

RINSE your mouth with hydrogen peroxide several times before going to bed. Make sure you sleep on your side. Put a pillow behind your back if you think you'll turn over onto your back.

PLEASE, get yourself to a dentist A.S.A.P., you need to find out what damage has been done, what can be done to correct and fix your teeth. The longer you want the worse the situation might become and the harder to repair.

If you have enough of the tooth/root/bone left you will more than likely require crowns. It that's not possible then there is the alternative "IMPLANTS".

NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE DONE...it will be worth the money, time and "pain". You want to keep your "own" teeth as long as possible. The alternative is NOT a good way to go (DENTURES!).

I hope you have the courage and conviction to MOVE IT!!!, so that your will continue to have the SMILE you want in life.

Wishing you well now and in the future!
