I've been having a really bad toothache in this one back tooth on and off for a few months now. I got my braces on this summer, and that upset the tooth with them messing with it. So, I went to the dentist because I had a cavity on that tooth and they fixed that, but that just made the pain so much worse. I was getting a terrible toothache once a day for about a week that lasted about an hour. Since ibprofin didn't kick in fast enough, the only way to escape the pain was to fall asleep. But, it's not like I can just fall asleep in the middle of class. Now I only get about 1 toothache a week. I can barely even brush on that tooth. It seems like whenever I go to the dentist, they just make the pain worse while trying to fix it. What should I do?
Realy bad tooth ache?
First of all....Go to the dentist. In the meantime take some tylenol every 4 hours. That should help the pain.. I find the advil doesn't help a toothache. Also try Ambisl that numbs the tooth for a few hours. Good Luck.
Reply:go to a different dentist. that dentist may have not filled the cavity in correctly. Also make sure it's filled in with porcelain instead of the metal stuff since the metal makes the tooth more sensitive. If the dentist says you can't use porcelain then he/she doesn't know what they're talking about because it can be done; it just requires more work on their part.
Reply:theres no other remedy for that only a dentist let the dentist pull it so that no more pains will occur
Reply:When a deep cavity is filled it will often be sensitive for aome time. It does seem to be getting less frequent so that is a good sign. If it is sensitive to hot things then the nerve is inflamed, and it may need a root canal eventually.
Porcelain is not used to fill a tooth as someone else suggested, it is used for crowns to cover the tooth. A composite resin is another type of filling material, and sometimes patients have a reaction to that material with increased sensitivity.
